Congress OKs $1.5T spending
2022 appropriations done
The House and Senate each cleared the $1.5 trillion Omnibus Appropriations legislation for fiscal 2022, completing all 12 fiscal spending bills nearly six months after the start of the fiscal year. President BIden signed the package into law on March 15.
On a 68-31 vote, the Senate on March 10 passed the omnibus bill, which includes $13.6 billion in aid to Ukrainians.
The House passed the bill on March 9, two days before a Continuing Resolution was to expire. The House and Senate also approved a short-term continuing resolution to March 15 to allow extra time for bill enrollment and signing.
The omnibus increases defense spending by $42 billion, or 5.6%, and raises nondefense spending by $46 billion, or 6.7%.
In an unusual move, the House split the bill into two parts, voting 361-69 on funding for defense agencies, and 260-71, with one Democrat, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-MI, voting “present,” on the nondefense portion.
