New Size Standards Proposed for Health Care Firms
SBA is proposing to increase size standards for 28 of 39 industries in NAICS Sector 62, Health Care and Social Assistance.
Most of the proposed increases are modest. Among the exceptions, the standard for medical laboratories, NAICS 621511, would be raised to $30 million, from the current $13.5 million; nursing care facilities, NAICS 623110, to $25.5 million from $13.5 million; blood and organ banks, NAICS 621991, would triple to $30 million; ambulance services, NAICS 621910, would double to $14 million. SBA estimates that more than 4,100 additional firms would become eligible for federal small business programs if the changes are adopted. It says small businesses would account for about 32% of the total receipts in Sector 62, compared with 30% under the current standards.
The rule is RIN 3245-AG30 in the Feb. 24 Federal Register. Comments are due April 24.
