$200 Million Award for Catapult Technology

Catapult Technology, an 8(a) service-disabled veteran owned firm, has won a $200 million contract to consolidate the General Services Administration’s IT infrastructure.

The five-year Information Technology Infrastructure Technology Global Operations contract, known as GITGO, was awarded through the 8(a) STARS governmentwide acquisition contract.

After the contract was announced last year as an 8(a) set-aside, several companies reportedly declined to bid because they believed it was too big for a small firm. GSA Administrator Lurita Doan defended the decision in September, saying, “The minority business community needs to say, ‘Our time has come.’ “

“GSA has long been a leader in initiatives opening doors to those who served our country’s military, and Catapult is committed to making this the best small-business success story,” said CEO Randy Slager in a statement. Catapult, of Bethesda, MD, will nearly double in size as a result of the award, he said.

GITGO is designed to merge IT operations for GSA’s three major units — the Federal Technology Service, the Federal Supply Service and the Public Buildings Service. GSA said Catapult will provide alignment of help-desk operations and support the computer networks of about 15,000 employees and contractors in more than 500 locations.

But Maine Senator Olympia Snowe said the contract will displace multiple incumbent small businesses. Last year, when she chaired the Senate Small Business Committee, Snowe had urged GSA to set aside the work for HUBZone companies.
