SBA Gives Details of Size Standard Review

SBA says three industry sectors are first in line in the agency’s review of size standards:

NAICS Sector 44-45, Retail Trade;
NAICS Sector 72, Accommodations and Food Services, including hotels and restaurants; and
NAICS Sector 81, Other Services. This broad category covers most types of repair services, including computer and communications equipment; personal care, such as barber and beauty shops and weight-loss centers; and dry cleaners and other personal services.

The current size standard for most businesses in the three categories is $6.5 million in annual receipts. Combined, the sectors cover 159 industries.

An SBA spokesman said internal analysis of the standards is complete and they are going through regulatory channels, including a review by the Office of Management and Budget.

Deputy Administrator Jovita Carranza said earlier that the agency hopes to propose changes in the standards by March 31. (SAA, 1/25)

Administrator Steven Preston said the agency plans to review all size standards over the next 12 to 18 months, with a few sectors to be completed each quarter.
