Women Impacting Public Policy Sets Training

Women Impacting Public Policy has declared federal contracting its number one priority and plans training and mentoring sessions to teach women entrepreneurs how to compete for the government’s business.

“Get in the Game – Increase Your Bottom Line! is designed for business owners to cut through hours of chasing down contacts and paper trails in Washington,” WIPP said. Small groups of businesspeople will meet with staff of the Offices of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization in their targeted agencies.

The day-long program will be offered Feb. 18-19 and March 25-26 in Washington, The fee is $2,000 and advance registration is required.

A second program, Fast Track on GSA Schedule, will be a one-day session for a business owner to prepare the paperwork needed to qualify for a schedule contract. It will be held Feb. 18 in Washington.

WIPP said a January survey of its members found 94% of those responding were interested in federal contracting.

The survey respondents said the most effective economic stimulus for small businesses is to open new business opportunities. “Federal contract unbundling represents the best growth opportunities for women-owned businesses.”

Accelerated depreciation and payroll tax relief ranked next, as effective incentives to directly stimulate economic growth.

The organization has protested the Bush administration’s two-year delay in implementing a law creating set-aside contracts for women-owned firms in industries where they are underrepresented in the federal marketplace.

The administration has given no timetable for completing a study that would set eligibility for the program.
