Government to hit 23% goal for FY13?
With more than 90% of awards reported, the federal government appears likely to hit the 23% goal for small business contracting for the first time since 2005, according to the White House’s online Small Business Dashboard.
As of Jan. 5, the dashboard showed 23.29% of all eligible federal contracts in fiscal 2013 had gone to small businesses.
Small vendor awards for fiscal 2013 total $83 billion to date. That compares to $90 billion in fiscal 2012. The SBA generally announces the official tallies in July each year.
In the last 13 years, the government has met the 23% goal only three times--in fiscal 2003, 2004 and 2005.
